Faculty and staff succession planning

  1. The purposes of faculty and staff succession planning are:
    1. to ensure that the faculty is systematically refreshed with persons who have requisite skills and experience.
    2. to minimise the risk to WU operations on the unexpected loss of personnel, including safeguarding organizational knowledge.
  2. The board will appoint a Succession Committee to oversee succession planning. It may consist of only one person.
  3. The Succession Committee shall have the following duties:
    1. Identify the skills and experience needed on the faculty and staff.
    2. Assess the limitations and gaps of the current faculty and staff.
    3. Identify the skills and experience and/or qualifications of individuals needed on the faculty and staff.
    4. Establish plans for persons to take orientation or understudy roles of senior faculty and staff members.
    5. Ensure the effective orientation, handover, and integration of replacement personnel.
  4. The Committee might consider existing senior Board or faculty members as emergency replacements.
  5. Other faculty members may still contribute to the identification and nomination of prospective new faculty and and staff members and positions.
