Research

When WU has research students, it shall appoint appropriately qualified persons to form a Research Committee. The committee shall decide how many times it should meet formally each year. The committee may appoint such sub-committees as it deems necessary to further its objectives.

Duties

  1. Oversee research policies
    1. Propose research policy to the Board, including overall strategies, funding, resourcing, ethics and priorities.
    2. Evaluate the effectiveness of research policy and practices, and report to the meeting of Academic Council.
    3. Liaise with the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  2. Support Heads of Departments to identify research focal points in each area of specialization.
  3. Propose research procedures to the Academic Council.
  4. If needed, propose research policy for ethical research on animal subjects.
  5. Ensure the quality of research procedures:
    1. Compliance with ethical standards
    2. Quality of supervision given to students
    3. Minimization of risk of student dropouts
    4. Approval of research proposals
    5. Mid-term reviews of dissertations
    6. Assessment procedures
  6. Apply for research grants
  7. Monitor and oversee staff publications
    1. Monitor the frequency and kind of of publications of each academic staff member
    2. Monitor roles in refereeing journal articles
  8. Monitor and oversee student publications, primarily doctoral students
  9. Monitor specialist research skills among staff (e.g. methodology, statistical analysis)
  10. Evaluate the feasibility of publishing one or more journals.
