Research
When WU has research students, it shall appoint appropriately qualified persons to form a Research Committee. The committee shall decide how many times it should meet formally each year. The committee may appoint such sub-committees as it deems necessary to further its objectives.
Duties
- Oversee research policies
- Propose research policy to the Board, including overall strategies, funding, resourcing, ethics and priorities.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of research policy and practices, and report to the meeting of Academic Council.
- Liaise with the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
- Support Heads of Departments to identify research focal points in each area of specialization.
- Propose research procedures to the Academic Council.
- If needed, propose research policy for ethical research on animal subjects.
- Ensure the quality of research procedures:
- Compliance with ethical standards
- Quality of supervision given to students
- Minimization of risk of student dropouts
- Approval of research proposals
- Mid-term reviews of dissertations
- Assessment procedures
- Apply for research grants
- Monitor and oversee staff publications
- Monitor the frequency and kind of of publications of each academic staff member
- Monitor roles in refereeing journal articles
- Monitor and oversee student publications, primarily doctoral students
- Monitor specialist research skills among staff (e.g. methodology, statistical analysis)
- Evaluate the feasibility of publishing one or more journals.
