Library mission
Mission statement
The purpose of the WU library is to support the WU faculty and students in achieving the mission and objectives of WU by providing access to online resources appropriate to WU teaching and learning activities, both in coursework and in research.
Goals
- Collection: Develop and maintain a collection that supports all WU programs.
- Services: Process and circulate resources to provide for access of resources for the WU learning community.
- Collaboration: Systematically collaborate within WU and with other organizations to promote systematic access to learning resources and seamless research activity.
- Staff: Oversee adequate and competent staff who assist WU learning community in their library usage needs.
- Information literacy: To support lifelong learning through instruction in information literacy.
- Facility: Maintain adequate and appropriate facilities for systematically administering the use of learning resources.
- Systems: Maintain orderly library systems that are fit for purpose, adaptable, and scalable to the growth potential of WU.
- Technology: Host and maintain technology to support the library function.
Missional matters
- When library matters address the institutional mission of WU, they require the approval of the Academic Council and the Board of Directors prior to implementation.
- The proceure for proposing change is as follows:
- The Librarian submits a written proposal to the Academic Council.
- The Academic Council may approve the proposal and submit it to the Board, or return it to the Librarian for revision. The Academic Council should not make substantial changes to the recommendation without consultation with the Librarian.
- The Board reviews the proposal.
- If not approved, the proposal is returned to the Librarian to address identified problems in the proposal and submit a revised proposal to the Academic Council.
- If the Board approves the proposal, the President will oversee appropriate distribution for implementation.
