Librarian
- Relationships:
- Report directly to the CEO
- Participate in WU as a senior faculty member
- Liaise with the IT manager and academic staff
- Manage the library’s planning, administration, and budget
- Ensure that library policies are up to date and propose policy changes to the Academic Council
- Maintain and issue up to date library procedures
- Ensure that library services comply with:
- the mission, objectives and ethos of WU
- any applicable standards
- the WU model of education
- legislation on Intellectual Property
- Oversee a system of classification of resources
- Oversee acquisitions
- Monitor and evaluate the accessibility of resources to library users:
- Monitor student’s Internet access (e.g. connectivity, download speeds, data allowances, hardware, language, etc.)
- Make the library an attractive service for users
- Ensure that library users:
- can retrieve and use resources when required
- have the means to search and use resources
- Keep the library online (open) at all hours in liasion with the CTO, unless specific maintenence is required (e.g. software updates).
Monitor and evaluate the use of learning resources Monitor and evaluate the quality and suitability for purpose of learning resources, including:
- the breadth and range of resources
- whether resources are up to date
- the mix of primary, secondary, and tertiary resources
- whether they are theory generation or professional/implementational
Oversee Quality Assurance of the library in:
- compliance with standards and
- processing feedback, complaints and inquiries for continual improvement
Maintain the currency of resources
- Oversee the review and updating of internally-generated resources
- Remove outdated or underutilized resources
Maintain any necessary records and statistics. Library assistants
- Each department shall appoint and train a library assistant with the following responsiblities:
- Liaise with the Librarian to ensure that library sources and systems are adequate and functioning effectively for the department.
- Give library users any assistance they need in using the library.
- Teach information literacy classes as assigned.
- Liaise with the Librarian and other library assistants to prevent unnecessary duplication of services.
- Upload and catalog library resources obtained by or for their department.
