Code of conduct for student recruitment representatives

Representatives are required to:

  1. Comply with WU policies and procedures for program admissions. This includes but is not limited to:
    1. treating prospective students equitably and non-prejudicially according to the access and anti-discrimination policies of WU.
    2. maintaining confidentiality of all student information.
    3. verifying identities of applicants.
    4. Use only advertising literature that WU has already approved.
  2. Enhance the reputation of WU
  3. Allow WU to monitor all activities related to their role:
    1. Disclose all information to WU
    2. Report to WU at least three monthly and at other times when asked.
  4. Provide feedback to WU in order to better improve services.
  5. Clearly identify WU as program providers and provide prospective students with WU contact information.
    1. Prospective students retain the right to contact WU directly.
    2. Representatives may not attempt to hinder or prevent prospective students from contacting WU.
  6. Deal honestly with WU, prospective students, and admitted students at all times.
  7. Provide accurate information on WU courses to prospective students.
  8. Support the interests of WU without conflict of duty to any other educational institution as a recruiter.
  9. Act in the best interests of prospective students. This includes, but is not limited to:
    1. Providing honest advice
    2. Recruiting only suitably qualified prospective students who have the ability to benefit from the proposed course.
    3. Giving applicants the prescribed cooling off period after making an application, and
    4. Giving applicants who choose to withdraw a full refund of all funds paid.
  10. Give admitted students after-sales service until such time as students participate in orientation for new students. Examples of after sales services include answering inquiries and smoothing the transition from enrollment to the beginning of studies.
  11. Maintain the role of fit and proper person.
  12. Comply with any governmental laws and regulations applicable at the time.
  13. Inform WU of any legislation and other government regulations relevant to the programs at the time.

Representatives may not:

  1. Exert undue pressure on prospective students nor offer inducements to apply.
  2. Ask for or accept money or other benefits from prospective students or applicants other than those authorized by WU.
  3. Incur debts on behalf of WU.
  4. Make undertakings of any kind whatsoever on behalf of WU other that those authorized in writing by WU.
  5. Subcontract services to other parties.
  6. Operate outside his/her/its defined region(s).
  7. Endanger in any way whatsoever any accreditation or recognition held by WU.

WU will:

  1. provide all current information necessary for compliance with the above in a useful form on all matters relating to provision of recognised courses. WU will normally provide information and advice to member colleges though its catalog, website and email. Other channels of communication will vary from time to time and according to need, and include consultancy visits, videoconference, and telephone.
  2. own absolutely the intellectual property rights to any advertising materials and other materials produced pertaining to student recruitment.
  3. retain the responsibility for making all representations to government agencies should the need arise, except where the representative is specifically authorized.
