Faculty and staff: Recruitment and induction

  1. Recruitment
    1. Faculty and staff are recruited on the basis of their expertise, their suitability for the vacancy, and referrals through credible sources.
    2. Acceptance onto faculty and staff is open to qualified applicants regardless of gender, social position, age, physical disability, or racial, ethnic, or linguistic background.
  2. Employment commitments
    1. Senior officers shall be appointed by the Board.
    2. The Board must approve employment arrangements for other employees.
      1. WU will have a written employment agreement with each junior employee.
      2. Junior employees are casual. They shall maintain a timesheet and will be paid by the hour.
    3. The Board may accept persons on an independent sub-contract basis if written terms are agreed upon beforehand.
    4. Resource people (e.g. guest speakers, mentors, workplace supervisors) are not faculty or staff members and do not need to be inducted.
    5. Other staff will be deemed to be voluntary.
  3. WU Faculty and Adjunct Faculty members can hold different employment positions with WU. They may be:
    • Full or part-time staff members of WU
    • Full or part-time staff members of the WU Network
    • Volunteers
    • Contract workers
    • Employed by other academic institutions
  4. Should a vacancy be filled through employment by WU, the following procedures will be followed:
    1. The President will appoint a Faculty Application Committee ("the committee") of at least two senior or faculty members who are familiar with the position and its specific requirements.
    2. Prospective candidates present their full CV/Resume and titles of published papers to the committee via email with at least three work-related references and two personal references.
    3. The committee prescreens the candidates. Only those applicants who meet or exceed minimum academic qualifications and fall within the WU mission statement and values will be selected to receive an application package. WU may request further information from selected candidates.
    4. With the permission of the candidate, WU will make background checks, including but not limited to financial, criminal, sex-offender, and degree verification. WU will be responsible for the fees for these services.
    5. The committee will select a short list of candidates for an official interview, and WU will contact candidates to arrange an interview. The committee will notify all other applicants in a timely manner that their application was not successful.
    6. The committee will interview those on the short list in person, by Skype, or by phone.
    7. If no candidate is selected, the search process begins again. WU reserves the right not to make an appointment for a vacancy.
    8. If a candidate is selected, the President will present the name to the Board for approval. The WU administration will prepare all documentation for the successful candidate with a start date. The contract of the appointed member will be accepted and approved with signature of the President.
    9. The candidate will be asked to read and sign all WU institutional and academic policies and procedures, and administrative rules and regulations.
  5. The President will oversee induction into WU systems of all new personnel, comprising:
    1. Nature and purpose of WU
    2. Relationship between WU Graduate School and ACAS Australia
    3. The contents of the WU catalog and website
    4. WU policies and procedures
    5. If possible, an opportunity to meet other staff and ask any questions of senior staff arising from induction materials.
