Teaching practicum guidelines

Ross Woods, 2015, '22

In the assessment of each core unit, you will be required to teach one undergraduate course. Topics will be assigned in consultation with the program coordinator, and students’ preparation needs approval to progress to teaching. Students then teach under supervision and will be observed. At the end, students write a formal report.

Students are required to:

  1. Plan and prepare the unit, including:
    1. Write course objectives,
    2. Write the unit description,
    3. Write lesson plans, including learning activities
    4. Write assessment activities
  2. Deliver the unit:
    1. Teach the unit
    2. Assess students
  3. Evaluating the unit
  4. Presenting documentation as a formal project.

The formal report

  1. Preliminaries (title page, contents)
  2. Introduction
    1. The purpose and scope of the unit
    2. The students and their characteristics as learners
    3. The need addressed
    4. The sequence
    5. The unit description
  3. Subsequent chapters (one for each session)
    1. Lesson plan
    2. Student notes
    3. Observer feedback
    4. Reflection and lessons learned
  4. Assessment
  5. Evaluation
  6. Conclusion
  7. Bibliography
