Units relating to teaching children

These are the titles of Australian units of competency relating to children's care, education, and behavior management. They have been updated, so current titles might be different. Certainly the codes have changed so they have been deleted. Many units are suited to university preparation, education studies, and to Christian ministry.

General interaction and development:

• Interact effectively with children
• Develop an understanding of children's interests and developmental needs
• Provide experiences to support children's play and learning
• Use targeted communication skills to build relationships

Behavior management

• Manage complex behavioural situations
• Respond effectively to difficult behaviours
• Establish and implement plans for developing cooperative behaviour

Specific areas (boldface is mine):

• Support the development of children
• Foster physical development in early childhood
• Foster physical development in middle childhood
• Foster social development in early childhood
• Foster social development in middle childhood
• Support emotional and psychological development in early childhood
• Support emotional and psychological development in middle childhood
• Foster cognitive development in early childhood
• Foster cognitive development in middle childhood
• Foster children's language and communication development
• Use music to enhance children's experience and development
• Foster children's aesthetic and creative development
• Promote ethical understanding of children

Special ed.

• Facilitate the development of programs for children with additional needs
• Facilitate the inclusion of children with additional needs
• Facilitate the inclusion of children with additional needs
• Plan and implement inclusion of children with additional needs
• Facilitate skills development and maintenance

Duty of care

• Participate in workplace safety procedures
• Apply basic First Aid
• Identify and respond to children and young people at risk
• Support the rights and safety of children and young people
• Ensure children's health and safety
• Participate in safety procedures for direct care work
