Peer supervision
With thanks to John Clapton, YouthCARE
A number of professions use Peer Supervision, some very particularly in the early years of a person’s work in the profession. Some organizations have a current requirement for professional supervision for all staff. Peer supervision can reduce the difficulties faced in trying to find on-site supervisors.
These persons act as mentors, but are not necessarily academic staff members of the training institution.
This model of training offers two distinct opportunities:
- It can enhance the quality of learning and professional reflection for new staff over the first three or more years of service.
- It creates an opportunity for existing staff to gain the skills they would need to be such a supervisor.
