- Do policies reflect your organization's philosophy?
- Do policies positively contribute to meeting client and stakeholder needs?
- Do they continue to be relevant?
- Are they consistent with the organization's philosophy?
- Do they meet funding requirements?
- Do they meet duty of care responsibilities?
- Do they promote ethical behavior?
- Are they based on principles of natural justice?
- Evaluate the existing policies and procedures in your organization. Determine if they are current and relevant for your organization and its clients. Reading them is a good start, but it is nowhere near the whole task because it won't tell you what people think about them. Consider these cases:
- Some procedures probably won't even be written down.
- People just ignore them, especially if you have too much policy and procedure.
- People have updated the procedures, and the document is out of date.
- People have become slack and need to go back to the procedures.
- Simply asking what people think will attract new suggestions for revision and change.
