This e-book will give you some orientation to being a board member. Board service can be a highly effective contribution to an organization. If the board is run well, you will see maximum benefit for the amount of time you put in. However, it takes passion, skill, and commitment.

The board is the group of people that is responsible for running the organization. It might also be called the board of directors, eldership, diaconate, committee, leadership team, or council.

If the body is incorporated, the board is defined in the constitution and in the Act of parliament under which it is incorporated. Other Acts of parliament and court precedents also further define the boards’ responsibilities.
